An updated short story for you

Coziness and reading, rewriting, & an enchanted author event

Hello Undines,

So, I'm on a bit of a rewriting kick.

I wasn't happy with Lover's Gift, the short story* which takes place after the events of Crystalline. I typically don't rewrite my books, but this one was super short. A bonus scene of under 3k. And I knew I could make it better, so I did.

In fact I went back to the original draft, which had a lot more coziness, including a scene of Ella and Rodan reading together and just generally being adorable. A thousand plus words later and Lover's Gift has its second debut.

You can download it for yourself here:

Another lovely detail? It's set in autumn, my favorite season. So it's the perfect happy, swoony read for September!

*the title says "a Waterlore Romance bonus scene" buuuut it's more than a scene. Maybe one day I'll fix the cover art, too?

More rewriting news...maybe?

Ok, I'll say it: I want to rewrite Night and Chase from the Alderwood Wedding series.

Why?? I'm glad you asked!

To keep this quick for now, I'm going to say that after publishing the series, I kept noticing how much happier I was with the story-to-spice ratio in Spell (that one pepper rating, remember?). And I really want to do that for Night (2 peppers) and Chase (3 peppers).

I'll keep you in the loop. I want to work on Night this month, so we'll see how that goes.

Meet me at the Night of the Enchanted Realms!

Ok, last thing before we get to the books! I'm going to be at Dalton, Georgia on September 27th for the Night of the Enchanted Realms event, and it promises to be LUSH, I tell you.

I'm bringing copies of Crystalline and Undercurrent, stickers, and possibly some other goodies.

That's long enough for this Undine Letter. Thanks for being here, and happy reading!

P.S. I'm always curious about the kinds of books you want to read, so I created this short poll for you.

Hazel Thornton is a small-town witch with a knack for brewing potions, botching spells, and annoying her grumpy werewolf neighbor, Blake Carter. But when a magical mishap leaves them trapped in each other’s bodies, they’re forced to work together—awkwardly, sarcastically, and very much against their will.

As Hazel and Blake race to reverse the spell, they uncover secrets that could tear the town apart. But the deeper they dive into the mystery, the more they realize their biggest problem might not be magic... it might be how much they’re falling for each other. Magic, mystery, and enemies-to-something-much-sweeter collide in this cozy paranormal romance full of heart, humor, and hexes.

When faced with the systematic erasure of their world, two colleagues who've danced around their feelings for years finally discover what matters most. Their desperate flight through asteroid fields becomes both a fight for survival and an awakening to desires they've kept buried under layers of professionalism.

a quote from our favorite water spirit, Rodan And the winners are... Hello Undines, Let's get right to it: last month I asked for your name and country of residence to be entered into the Crystalline giveaway, and here are the winners! USA paperback winners: Lalita Creighton & Linda Rorex Worldwide ebook winner: Sally Childs Woohoo! Confetti, champagne, and balloons all around! And yes, I chose two paperback winners. The three of you were the only ones to enter the giveaway, so I thought, why...

A thank you gift Hello Undines, I truly never know when my brain will decide to finish some stories. For example: at the end of last month, I suddenly finished my rewrite of AW Night and re-uploaded it to all my platforms. Ta-da! So, did I bring it down from 2 peppers to 1? Not really. 1/5 peppers, maybe. The story decided to stay in the midrange of steam levels for the series. But I did add Carina and Trevelyon's meeting at the start of the book, plus a few other updates. And for today, you...

this could be in a haunted house, right? (Unsplash) Time for the haunted past!! Hello Undines, I don't know about you, but this is my favorite time of year. Halloween, fall colors, cooler/cold weather, moody fog and cloudy skies: this is where I thrive. There's something quiet and cozy about autumn, but also a little unsettling. We might celebrate those who have gone before us and remember our own mortality. We might have to reckon with the past and how it didn't always happen the way we were...
